Description

WWI Prussian Cuirassier Steel Helmet (Kurassierhelm), 1915, Schulz & Holdefleiss, Berlin. A fine and authentic Prussian Cuirassier enlisted man’s steel helmet (Stahlhelm für Kürassiere), as worn by the heavy cavalry regiments of the Imperial German Army during the First World War. The helmet features a bright nickel-steel body with tall detachable steel spike on a ventilated base plate. The front displays the large gilt-brass Prussian eagle wappen, inscribed “Mit Gott fur Konig und Vaterland” and centered with the crowned monogram “FR” (Friedrich Rex). The fittings include a blackened steel chinstrap with iron buckles and the metal side posts fitted with both national and Prussian cockades (black-white-red and black-white). Inside, the helmet retains its original leather liner, well preserved though showing period wear. The interior is clearly manufacturer-stamped “Schulz & Holdefleiss, Berlin S.W.” and bears the unit and size markings “56 8.K.”, denoting issue to the 8th Cuirassier Regiment. Condition: Very good. Dimensions: Height (to spike) 27 cm.
