Description
Pair of Magnificent Flintlock Carbines, Bertolfmeo Timpino, Brescia, Northern Italy, 1745. A superb matched pair of short flintlock carbines by the Brescian gunsmith Bartolomeo Timpino, signed “BERTOLAMEO TIMPINO” on the top flats of the barrels. Each firearm features an octagonal-to-round barrel finely engraved and chased foliage and masks. The locks are exquisitely engraved and chiseled in high relief with lion masks, scrollwork, and rococo motifs, typical of mid-18th century Brescia. The mounts are entirely of steel, including the trigger guards, ramrod pipes, side plates, and butt plates—the latter engraved with mythological sea creatures and floral designs. The walnut full stocks are gracefully shaped. These exceptional carbines represent the height of Italian Baroque gunmaking, combining luxurious craftsmanship with refined mechanical precision. Rare as a preserved pair and of true museum quality. Excellent condition. Length: approximately 65 cm. Caliber: approximately 12 mm.
