Helmet of a Dragoon of the Imperial Guard, First Empire, Model 1806, Early 19th Century. An exceptional example of a French Imperial Guard dragoon helmet from the Napoleonic era, circa 1806-1815. The helmet features a polished brass skull with elaborate decorative elements including a prominent front plate bearing the imperial "N" cipher surmounted by a crown, flanked by ornate foliate designs. Original horsehair plume in vibrant red, retained in excellent condition. Elaborate brass crest with geometric patterns and decorative bosses. Leopard skin turban wrapped around the base, a distinctive feature of dragoon helmets. Original brass chin scales with decorative rosettes Interior leather liner showing period construction techniques. Flowing black horsehair mane (crinière) cascading from the rear. The interior retains its original leather liner and padding, showing authentic age and use. Minor age-appropriate wear and patination consistent with a period genuine piece. This helmet represents the elite status of Napoleon's Imperial Guard dragoons, who served as heavy cavalry units during the Empire's most significant campaigns. An outstanding example of French military craftsmanship and a rare survivor from one of history's most famous military formations. Helmet height 51 cm.
