Description

WWI German Model 1915 Jager zu Pferde Enlisted Ranks Lobstertail Pickelhaube Helmet. A fine and authentic Imperial German M1915 Jager zu Pferde Pickelhaube, also known as the lobstertail spiked helmet, issued to the elite mounted rifle regiments of the Imperial German cavalry during the First World War. Constructed entirely of steel, this late-war model represents the transition from the traditional leather Pickelhaube to the practical, all-metal combat version. The helmet retains its original field-gray (feldgrau) finish, with the ventilated spike mounted on a detachable base secured by domed studs. The front plate (Wappen) features the Prussian eagle with spread wings and the motto “Mit Gott für König und Vaterland” (“With God for King and Fatherland”), rendered in gray metal for reduced battlefield reflection. The helmet is fitted with its original brown leather chinstrap and both national cockades (black-white-red for the Empire, black-and-white for Prussia). The lobstertail neck guard a hallmark of the Jäger zu Pferde design - offers extended rear protection for the cavalry trooper. Inside, the helmet retains its original leather liner, showing honest wear and good preservation. The Jager zu Pferde regiments were elite mounted troops formed in 1901 as part of the modernization of the Imperial cavalry arm. Their distinctive steel Pickelhauben were among the first German helmets to abandon traditional ornamentation in favor of practical wartime design - a precursor to the iconic M1916 Stahlhelm. Condition: Very good and complete; minor surface oxidation and wear consistent with age and service use. Dimensions: Height with spike approx. 26 cm.
