Description

Rare WWI Prussian Guard Jager Enlisted Man’s leather Shako, Model 1915. An excellent and original example of the Model 1915 leather Shako, as issued to enlisted men of the Prussian Guard Jäger Battalion during the First World War. Constructed of black lacquered leather, the helmet retains its distinctive flat-topped shape and ventilated side grommets. The front is fitted with the stamped steel Guard star, bearing the motto “Suum Cuique” (“To Each His Own”) surrounding the crowned Prussian eagle. The helmet includes its original leather chinstrap affixed to gray metal side posts. The interior features the original leather liner. The Garde-Jager-Bataillon, based in Potsdam, was one of the elite light infantry formations of the Prussian Army. Its members wore this distinctive Tschako throughout the early stages of the Great War, including the campaigns on the Western Front. The simplified Model 1915 variant was introduced to replace brass fittings with gray metal, conserving strategic materials during wartime. Condition: Very good. Height: approx. 19 cm.
