Description
Rare Spanish Crucifix Dagger, Plata Meneses, 1937, Spanish Civil War era. A rare devotional crucifix dagger, crafted in Spain and dated 1937, featuring a blade produced by the renowned Spanish firm Plata Meneses. The dagger’s hilt forms a cross, with a Christ figure in relief mounted upon the front, flanked by decorative inlays of bone and mother-of-pearl. The reverse bears an engraved cross and the year 1937. The double-edged steel blade bears the Plata Meneses trademark — a Gothic “M” inside a radiant sun, whose rays form a square — accompanied by the inscriptions “Metal Blan” and “Meneses.” The dagger retains its original scabbard, covered in black leather with silver fittings, engraved with floral and cross motifs. Crucifix daggers of this type, combining religious symbolism with functional craftsmanship, were often produced during the Spanish Civil War period, serving both as devotional items and symbolic personal weapons. A rare and evocative example of Spanish devotional arms craftsmanship from the early 20th century. Condition: Very good, minor wear and oxidation consistent with age; blade markings crisp and legible. Length: approx. 29 cm.
