Rare Spanish Crucifix Dagger, Plata Meneses, 1935. An exceptional Spanish crucifix dagger, produced by the prestigious firm Plata Meneses, Madrid, and dated 1935. The hilt is formed as a Latin cross, mounted with a finely cast bronze figure of Christ in high relief, the ends capped with metal. The grip and crosspiece are finished in black lacquered wood, lending the piece an elegant and solemn appearance. The double-edged steel blade bears clear Meneses Madrid markings, including the distinctive sunburst emblem enclosing a Gothic “M”, and the engraved date 1935. The black leather scabbard is fitted with silvered mounts delicately engraved with cross motifs. Crucifix daggers of this type were traditionally carried in Catholic Spain as devotional or symbolic weapons, often associated with the Spanish Civil War era. A rare and beautifully made devotional dagger by one of Spain’s finest 20th-century cutlers, Plata Meneses of Madrid. Condition: Very good, showing honest wear and patina; blade markings well preserved. Length: approx. 27 cm.
