Rare Russian Bardiche (Battle Axe), Tsardom of Moscow, 16th Century. A rare and early Russian bardiche, forged in the 16th century during the period of the Tsardom of Moscow. The long, crescent-shaped blade with pierced decorative holes along the back edge exemplifies the distinctive style of early Muscovite polearms used by streltsy infantry and ceremonial guards. The blade is forged of iron with a broad cutting edge, socketed mount for a wooden shaft. An impressive and historically significant example of early Russian military craftsmanship, illustrating the evolution of polearms from the medieval to the early modern era.
