Description

Rare German WWI Imperial Model 1915 Hessian Infantry Pickelhaube Helmet. A scarce and original Model 1915 Imperial German Pickelhaube helmet issued to the Hessian Infantry Regiment during World War I. This fine example features the distinctive Hessian front plate depicting the crowned lion rampant within a wreath of oak leaves the traditional symbol of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The front plate is made of grey-painted metal, in accordance with the 1915 wartime specifications that eliminated polished brass fittings for a subdued field appearance. The body of the helmet is constructed of leather with metal trim. It retains its original leather chinstrap and both national and state cockades (the red - white - black national cockade and the red -white Hessian cockade). The spike is removable and ventilated. The interior preserves its original leather liner, showing service use. A genuine and desirable example of a German Imperial combat helmet from a lesser-seen contingent state, the Grand Duchy of Hesse, representing one of the more attractive and collectible variants among WWI Pickelhauben. Good condition. Dimensions: Approx. 22 cm high (including spike).
