Description
Rare Axe of the Admiral of the Venetian Republic, 16th century. This object served as a command staff that was used by admirals of the Venetian fleet in the 16th century. The iron body with a small convex blade is chiselled in high relief with figures, monsters, and silhouettes; the square base is chiselled with figures and animals with a mask at the top. The black wood shaft is richly decorated with carved floral ornaments and a mascaron at the tip. A very rare collectible Renaissance axe. Excellent condition for 44 cm.
