Description

Prussian Infantry Guard Officer’s Pickelhaube, Model 1895 (Imperial Germany, WWI period). An elegant and original example of the Model 1897 Pickelhaube used by officers of the Prussian Infantry during the final decades of the German Empire, including World War I. Black lacquered leather helmet body with all brass fittings. The front plate (Wappen) features the large gilt Prussian eagle, bearing the motto “Mit Gott für König und Vaterland” (“With God for King and Fatherland”) and the royal cipher “FR” (Friedrich Rex). Chin scales in gilt brass, mounted on rosettes with national cockades on both sides. Interior lined with tan leather sweatband and silk headcloth, red underside to visors, all consistent with period manufacture. The Model 1897 marked the final standardized pattern of the classic Pickelhaube, adopted across the German Empire. Officers purchased their helmets privately, often of superior craftsmanship and materials. The design, featuring the iconic Prussian eagle and spike, became emblematic of Imperial Germany during the reigns of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Condition: Very good and original. Dimensions: Height including spike approx. 24 cm.
