Prussian Gendarmerie Mounted Officer’s Pickelhaube Helmet, Model 1897. A rare and authentic Pickelhaube helmet for a mounted officer of the Royal Prussian Gendarmerie (Landgendarmerie), circa 1897 - 1914. Constructed from black lacquered leather with gilt brass mounts and fittings, this elegant helmet represents the version worn by officers of the rural police service across the Prussian. Traditional black leather body, lacquered and edged in brass trim. Prussian eagle front plate with star of the Order of the Black Eagle, bearing the motto “Suum Cuique” (“To Each His Own”). Eagle wings extended with banners inscribed “Mit Gott für Koenig und Vaterland” (“With God for King and Fatherland”). Mounted spike atop a ventilated cruciform base. National and state cockades on each side above the chinscales attachment. Retains the original brown leather liner with moderate wear consistent with age. The Prussian Landgendarmerie was a rural mounted police corps under military organization, serving as both law enforcement and provincial security. Its officers were uniformed in near-identical fashion to cavalry officers, with the distinctive Pickelhaube helmet symbolizing authority and state power throughout the German Empire. Condition: Good, complete and original; minor surface crazing to the leather shell, light patina to fittings. Dimensions: Height including spike - approx. 24 cm.
