Description
Imperial German Model 1895 Prussian Reservist Pickelhaube Helmet, Reserve Infantry Regiment No 28. An authentic Model 1895 Prussian enlisted man’s Pickelhaube (spiked helmet), issued to a Reservist of the Imperial German Army during World War I. Constructed from black lacquered leather with brass fittings, including the spike, front plate, trim, and chinstrap fittings. The large Prussian eagle (Wappen) dominates the front, finely detailed and clutching scepter and orb, bearing on its breast a nickel-silver reserve cross inscribed “Mit Gott fur Konig und Vaterland – 1813” (“With God for King and Fatherland – 1813”), identifying this example as a reservist issue. Both original side cockades are present: the national red-white-black on the right and the Prussian black-and-white on the left, secured by the original black leather chinstrap. The interior retains its original brown leather liner, showing age. The rear visor is faintly unit-stamped “RIR 28” (Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 28). A genuine and well-preserved example, representing one of the most iconic pieces of First World War headgear. Condition: Good, complete, with moderate wear, slight damage to side cockade, see photo. All metal fittings with uniform age patina. Height (including spike): approx. 21 cm.
