German Firefighter Helmet - City of Winterberg, Lower Saxony, circa 1900. A rare German firefighter’s helmet from the early 20th century, originating from Winterberg, Lower Saxony. Constructed from black leather with a brass comb, lion-head side bosses, and a front emblem with the coat of arms of Lower Saxony and the inscription Winterberg. The helmet features its original leather chinstrap with brass fittings and a brass front and rear trim, typical of German civic fire service headgear from around 1890 - 1910. The interior retains remnants of the leather liner. This model represents the transition between 19th-century Prussian fire helmets and later civic parade types, combining both protective and ceremonial design elements.
