Description

A rare gift to the Vice-Admiral of the USSR Abankin, Japanese officer's sword of the mounted police with a shagreen (sharkskin) handle. The steel curved blade is typical for Japanese swords. The hilt consists of a brass zarda and a wooden handle covered with stingray skin. The metal parts of the handle are made of brass. Metal nickel-plated scabbard. On the scabbard on both sides there are inscriptions in Cyrillic. On one side there is the inscription "To Vice-Admiral Abankin in memory of joint service from Captain-Lieutenant Zvyagin M.L." On the other side there is the inscription "Samurai sword obtained in battles with Japanese imperialists on 1945 during the capture of Kunashiri Island - the southernmost of the Kuril Islands." Pavel Sergeevich Abankin (1902 - 1965) - Soviet naval figure, admiral (01/27/1951). A wonderful memorable gift, a trophy sword with a dedication. A rare artifact of WWII history related to the famous admiral of the USSR. Excellent condition. Length 87 cm.
