A Pair Rare Brescian Flintlock Belt Pistols, Second quarter of the 17th Century. Smooth, two-stage, 14 mm cal. barrels, octagonal at the first part. Elegant flintlocks finely engraved and carved. The figured full walnut stock has inset chiseled iron panels and mounts decorated with foliate scrollwork and mystical animals. Trigger guards and butt-plates richly pierced and engraved with floral motifs. Complete with iron-tipped, wooden ramrods. Manufactured in Brescia, Northern Italy in the 17th century. During the first half of the 17th Century the gunmakers of Bresica, Italy, produced the finest and most beautiful weapons in Europe. The Bresican gunsmiths were particularly noted for their skill in chiseled steel embellishments. A superb pair of flintlock pistols in excellent condition. length 52 cm.
