Description
A Officer's sabre of the Grenadiers Pied of the Imperial Guard - First Empire and portrait of the owner. Gilded bronze hilt has damage (see photos). The wooden handle is wrapped in filigree. Curved blade with hollow side, fuller and domed back, engraved in a cartouche "GARDE IMPERIALE" with the N surmounted by the crowned imperial eagle and the other "GRENADIERS". Gilded and blued blade. Leather scabbard with three brass fittings. This lot includes a painting of the owner of the sabre with a commemorative inscription about the owner, "Captain Henri Petit Pierre" of the Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard in Metz in 1813. Painting made at the request of the later family. A wonderful lot telling the history of the French Imperial Guard during the time of Napoleon I. The length of the sabre is 93 cm.
