Description
A Magnificent Saber, Shamshir, Kilij, Silver, probably Wootz Blade, Ottoman Empire, 19th Century. The curved blade without fuller is probably made of wootz, the brand in the form of a lion on the right side of the blade. The blade is made in Turkey, the brand imitates Persian brands of an earlier period. The handle is of a classic Ottoman form of the 18th-19th century, made of horn. The guard is made of silver and decorated with engraving. The wooden scabbard is covered with black leather with a wide "springy" silver seam in the middle. Very high-quality fittings of the scabbard are made of gilded silver, richly decorated with chasing and engraving, on individual parts of the fittings there are assay marks of the Ottoman Empire and the Tughra of the ruling Sultan. Such items that have retained their original appearance, without intervention, are rare to find on the market. A beautiful, collectible artifact of the Ottoman Empire in excellent condition.
