Description
A French First Empire Napoleonic Senior Officer's Saber, gilt mount. A bronze hilt chased and gilded on the model of the sabers of generals of the Manufacture de Versailles. Guard with a branch richly decorated with palmettes, branches of foliage, acanthus leaves, with cruciform with palmettes and fleurons. Cap with short tail in the shape of a lion's head on the model of sabres a la Marengo. Finely checkered ebony grip. Curved blade with a wide fuller on each side, engraved and gilded on its first third with military trophies and floral decorations, with blued background. The leather scabbard with gilded brass fittings, richly decorated with embossing and engraving, is in excellent condition. A fine, collectible example of the French saber of a senior officer of the First Empire. Length 96 cm.
