Description
A fine pair of pistols with trombonnet barrels and folding bayonets, England, 18th century. A fine and extremely rare set in excellent condition. The barrels are made of Damascus steel and have flared muzzles to facilitate loading of gunpowder during sea conditions or when firing from horseback. Folding bayonets are located above the muzzles of the barrels and are fixed in the folded position by special bars on the barrel tails. The breech ends of the barrels are decorated with the inscription "LONDON" and images of military trophies applied in gold tatting. The wooden stocks are decorated with silver wire inlay and carvings (images of roses). Flintlocks are of the French battery type, without hallmarks. The dimensions of each pistol are: overall length 35 cm, barrel length 18 cm, bell size 45 x 26 mm.
