Description

A beautiful pair of flintlock pistols, Lazarino Cominazzo, Brescia, second half of the 17th century. The barrels are by the master Lazarino Cominazzo with octagonal at the beginning with the signature "Lazarino Cominazzo" then becoming chevroned. The locks have elaborate chiseled floral design. The figured full walnut stocks has inset chiseled iron panels and mounts decorated with foliate scrollwork. Underneath the perforated inserts are red velvet. Fitted with a wooden iron-mounted ramrods. Manufactured in Brescia, Northern Italy in the 17th century. On this magnificent pair we see two styles of Brescian work found on the best Italian pistols, the pierced, engraved lacework and the deeply chiseled relief steel. During the first half of the 17th Century the gunmakers of Brescia, Italy, produced the finest and most beautiful weapons in Europe. The Brescian gunsmiths were particularly noted for their skill in chiseled steel embellishments. The finest Brescian firearms were made by the Cominazzo family. Good condition. Caliber 14 mm. Length 48 cm.
