Description

WW1, The Pattern 1907 bayonet, Mark 1, for Short Magazine Lee Enfield, England, Early 20th Century. This notable British Pattern 1907 (Mark I) bayonet, Wilkinson Sword Company, stands as a quintessential example of early 20th-century military engineering. Originally designed to accompany the Short Magazine Lee-Enfield rifle, the weapon features a robust, single-edged tempered steel blade characterized by a pronounced fuller for optimal weight distribution. The hilt is composed of a steel crossguard with a muzzle ring, a contoured pommel with a spring-loaded attachment catch, and wooden grip scales fastened by twin recessed bolts. The ricasso is intricately struck with various official markings, including the "1907" pattern date, the "Wilkinson" manufacture stamp, and the "MK I" designation alongside the British crown inspection proofs. Furthermore, the blade displays the "FR 56" arsenal mark, signifying a mid-century factory refurbishment at the Ishapore arsenal. Accompanied by its original leather scabbard with steel mounts, the assembly bears the serial number "76327" on the scabbard throat. Measuring approximately 46 cm in overall length. The item is in good condition.
