Description

Very rare Helmet of a pupil of the Imperial Page Corps, model 1872, Russian Empire, 19th century. Ceremonial helmet of a pupil of the Page Corps of His Imperial Majesty with an applied St. Andrew's star on the state emblem. Leather chin strap with applied brass scales. Similar headdresses were introduced in 1872 and were retained only by the Page Corps of His Imperial Majesty until 1917. The Page Corps of His Imperial Majesty was a prestigious court and military educational institution of the Russian Empire, operating in St. Petersburg. It was established in 1759 by a personal decree of Empress Elizabeth Petrovna as a court boarding school "Her Imperial Majesty's Page Corps" and existed in this form until Alexander I ascended the throne. In 1802, Alexander I reformed it into a military educational institution that supplied career officers of the Life Guards until the corps was closed by the Bolsheviks in 1918. A very important item for collectors of artifacts of the Russian Empire. Good condition. Height 23 cm.
