Description

Robert Louis Stevenson – Wyspa Głosów (The Isle of Voices), Polish edition published by the Union of Polish Associations in the British Zone, Hannover, 1948. Translation by Mieczysław Lurczyński. A scarce and historically significant post-war Polish-language edition of The Isle of Voices by Robert Louis Stevenson, translated by Mieczysław Lurczyński. Published in 1948 in Hannover by the Union of Polish Associations in the British Occupation Zone of Germany, this booklet reflects the intellectual and cultural activities of displaced Polish communities in the aftermath of World War II. Softcover with visible age toning, particularly at the edges. Staple-bound, 20 numbered pages. The typography and production style are typical of low-cost émigré press publications of the late 1940s. This rare example of Polish post-war émigré literature is of interest to collectors of Eastern European publishing history, Polish diaspora materials, and Stevenson translations. Dimensions: approximately 18x13 cm.
