Description
Rare Romanian Dagger, Dirk – People's Republic Period, ca 1950s. A rare dagger of the Romanian People’s Republic, dating to the early Cold War period (circa 1950s). The dagger features a brass hilt and scabbard richly decorated with the Romanian socialist state emblem depicting the rising sun over the Carpathian Mountains within a wreath of wheat ears, surmounted by a red star. The straight double-edged steel blade is serially numbered “10231” near the ricasso. The hilt is fitted with an imitation bone grip, complemented by a crossguard with circular finials. Such daggers were issued to high-ranking officers and officials during the early socialist period of Romania, closely modeled after Soviet daggers. They represent a fascinating symbol of the postwar alignment between Romania and the USSR during the establishment of the Eastern Bloc. Condition: Good, with minor wear and light oxidation consistent with age; blade bright and well-preserved. Dimensions: Overall length approx. 32 cm.
