Description
Rare richly decorated Caucasian dagger KAMA, Russian Empire, Dagestan, Osman Omarov, circa 1900. This exceptional Caucasian kama dagger, crafted in Dagestan during the late 19th or early 20th century, serves as a distinguished example of the high-caliber cold weaponry produced within the Russian Empire. The piece is signed by the celebrated master Osman Omarov, with his name "OCMAH" clearly etched in Cyrillic along the central fuller of the formidable double-edged steel blade. The hilt is meticulously constructed with an bone grip, further enhanced by silver-gilt rivets and a ferrule decorated with masterfully applied filigree and granulation. The scabbard, featuring a traditional wood core wrapped in leather, is adorned with substantial silver-gilt fittings; the locket and chape display a dense program of filigree scrolls and stylized floral motifs, while the reverse sides are embellished with delicate niello work characteristic of the region's artistic heritage. Measuring a total length of 56 cm, this dagger exemplifies the synthesis of functional military equipment and the decorative luxury typical of Dagestani artisanal traditions.
