Rare French “de Mineurs” sappers, Officer’s Saber, Period of the French Revolution, Late 18th Century. An authentic and rare example of a French sappers saber (“Sabre de Mineur”), dating from the turbulent years of the French Revolutionary period (circa 1790–1800). The brass guard of elegant curved form encloses a grip covered in leather with twisted brass wire binding. The slightly curved single-edged blade shows signs of age. Complete with its leather scabbard, fitted with two brass suspension mounts and a chape. These sabers were carried by officers of the sappers and miners corps, elite engineer troops responsible for fortifications, demolitions, and siege operations during the late 18th century. The design combines both military functionality and the elegant aesthetics. A distinguished and historically evocative weapon from the France. Condition: Good for its age. Total length approx. 92 cm.
