Description
Prussian Guard Eagle Helmet Plate (Wappen), circa 1895–1914. An exceptional Imperial German Prussian Guard Officer’s front plate (Wappen), designed for the Pickelhaube helmet of the elite Garde regiments. The magnificent silver-plated Guard eagle bears outspread wings, crowned head, and the sword and scepter of Prussia, with the national motto “Mit Gott für Konig und Vaterland” (“With God for King and Fatherland”) across its banners. At the eagle’s breast shines the finely detailed Guard Star of the Order of the Black Eagle, inscribed “Suum Cuique” (“To Each His Own”), surrounding the crowned cipher of the Prussian monarchy. This example is crisply struck with fine detailing and retains traces of original silver finish. Condition: Excellent preservation with light age patina and minimal wear. The Guard regiments of the Prussian Army were the most prestigious formations in Imperial Germany, serving directly under the Kaiser. Their helmets were adorned with this distinct Guard Wappen, setting them apart from all other Prussian units. The Guard Star motif was derived from the Order of the Black Eagle — the highest Prussian order of chivalry. Condition: Good preservation with light age patina and minimal wear. Dimensions: approx. 18 cm wide x 12 cm high.
