Description

Original WWII Press Photograph – Surrender of Saint-Nazaire and Lorient, May 1945. An original vintage World War II press photograph issued by the Photo-Lique USIS (United States Information Service, Paris), depicting the massive German U-Boat bunker complex at Saint-Nazaire, one of the last Nazi-held Atlantic ports to surrender. The attached wartime caption (dated May 8, 1945) reports the surrender of over 50,000 German troops from the fortified ports of Saint-Nazaire and Lorient, the last remnants of Hitler’s Atlantic strongholds. The bunkers, famous for housing the deadly U-boats, remained under siege and isolated until the final capitulation of German forces in France. A striking historical photograph documenting the end of the Atlantic U-boat war and the fall of Germany’s last coastal fortresses. Condition: very good, original typed press note and censorship certification on verso. Dimensions: approx. 24 x 18 cm.
