Description
Original WWII German, Naval Officer's Dress Dagger (Kriegsmarine), circa 1938–1944. A regulation Kriegsmarine officer’s dagger (Dolch für Offiziere der Kriegsmarine), complete with its original brass scabbard. The hilt features a twisted celluloid grip in imitation of ivory, bound with brass wire, terminating in a pommel cast as a spread-winged eagle. The crossguard bears the anchor motif within a roped border, typical of naval symbolism. The double-edged blade, of polished steel, displays twin fullers and remains in very good condition with minor oxidation consistent with age. The scabbard is finely engraved with oak-leaf and marine motifs, fitted with two suspension rings for uniform wear. Such daggers were carried by commissioned officers of the Kriegsmarine (German Navy) as part of their dress uniform from 1938 onward. A fine and complete example of the Third Reich naval officer’s dress dagger, illustrating the ornate ceremonial tradition of the German Navy before and during the Second World War. Condition: Good. Length 41.5 cm.
