Description
Original WWII German KS 98 Dress Bayonet by Carl Eickhorn with Frog. A fine example of the KS 98 dress bayonet (Extraseitengewehr für das Heer), manufactured by Eickhorn, Solingen, complete with its black-painted steel scabbard, leather frog, and troddel (portepee). The hilt is fitted with black checkered Bakelite grip plates secured by two rivets, and plated steel mounts including the bird-head pommel with functional release button. The blade is of mirror-polished steel, single-edged with a deep single fuller on each side, marked on the ricasso “Original Eickhorn Solingen” with the seated squirrel trademark. The scabbard is of steel, painted gloss black, fitted with a ball finial and in very good condition with only light surface wear. Accompanied by the black leather frog for belt suspension and a green-and-silver troddel, denoting company or unit color in the army tradition. Non-combatant bayonets of this type were privately purchased by enlisted men and NCOs for wear with the walking-out or parade uniform, following the form of the regulation S 84/98 service bayonet but with polished blade and nickel mounts. The present example, with maker’s logo and original accessories, represents a well-preserved and complete set. Dimensions: Overall length: 40 cm. Good condition.
