Description
Medieval Rondel Dagger 15th century AD. A steel dagger with straight tapering blade, mushroom-shaped lower guard and pommel. The name "rondel" is derived from the disc-shaped guard of the dagger. These daggers were in general use from the mid 14th to the mid 16th century, but may have first appeared around the year 1300. They appear to have been used in central and western Europe, Scandinavia and Spain, as well as in England. They are mostly thought of as military weapons and are often associated with the knightly classes, judging by the number of knightly effigies depicting rondel daggers. Length 33 cm.
