Description

Large Traditional Uzbek Knife “Pchak” with Bone Handle and Decorated Bolster. A fine, large example of a traditional Uzbek “pchak” knife, measuring approximately 26 cm in total length, characterized by its wide straight-back blade and richly ornamented handle. The broad single-edged blade is lightly curved toward the tip and decorated on one side with inlay of crescent moon and stars, a motif symbolizing fortune and protection in Central Asian iconography. The reverse shows a patina from age and use. The bolster and ferrule are exquisitely decorated with red, green, and black, forming geometric and vegetal motifs. The inscription “2007” appears within the decorative band, identifying the year of manufacture, a common practice among master smiths in Bukhara and Fergana. The handle is constructed of polished bone overlays. This pchak represents the enduring craftsmanship of Uzbek knife-making, combining traditional symbolism, functional form, and polychrome ornamentation characteristic of Central Asia’s artisanal heritage. Condition: Good; minor age wear and light oxidation to the blade; paint and bone well preserved. Length: approx. 26 cm.
