Description

Large, Richly Decorated Ceremonial Dagger, France, 19th Century. An opulent ceremonial dagger, richly ornamented in the lavish French taste of the 19th century. The gilt bronze hilt is adorned with large faceted colored glass gems imitating rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and diamonds, set within intricate floral mounts. The central section features a prominent oval stones surrounded by a ring of brilliant-cut crystals, giving the weapon an almost regal appearance. The scabbard is covered with fine red leather and fitted with gilt mounts delicately engraved with floral motifs and further set with imitation gemstones. The slender double-edged steel blade remains preserved with minor age patina. Good condition. Length: approx. 39 cm.
