Magnificent, Large, Engraving, The Victory of Constantine over Maxentius, beginning of the 18th century. Engraving by Pierre Picault (1680-1711) and Nicolas Henri Tardieu (1674-1749) after Charles Le Brun (1619-1690). The Victory of Constantine over Maxentius, the bridge is on the right with Constantine in profile and raised spear riding onto it, amid a vast melee of soldiers and horses. This victory secured Constantine's rule over the Western Roman Empire and is often linked to his conversion to Christianity. Maxentius drowned in the Tiber River during the battle.
