Description

German Police Bayonet, Third Reich Period (c. 1930s–1940s), Carl Eickhorn, Solingen. A fine example of a German Polizeiseitengewehr (police bayonet) from the Third Reich era. The piece features a bright, nickel-plated blade with a single fuller, bearing the maker’s mark of Carl Eickhorn, Solingen one of the most renowned Solingen cutlers. The hilt is fitted with stag horn grip plates secured by two rivets and decorated with an ornate nickel pommel in the form of an eagle’s head with detailed feather engraving. The crossguard terminates in an oak leaf motif. The black leather scabbard retains its original nickel-plated fittings and is accompanied by a period black leather frog. These bayonets were carried by German police and municipal security units (Ordnungspolizei) during the 1930s–1940s, often adapted from earlier Weimar-era designs. The example presented here remains in very good preserved condition, showing only minor wear consistent with age and service. Markings: Oval trademark with squirrel logo and maker’s name; numbered “56” on crossguard. Total length: approx. 46 cm.
