Description

Extra Rare Indo-Persian-Ottoman Battle Ax with Forked Spike, 17th – 18th Century. A finely crafted Indo-Persian battle ax head (tabar) featuring a remarkable forked rear spike - a rare form associated with high-status warriors and ceremonial arms of the Mughal and Deccan courts. Forged entirely of high-carbon steel, the ax exhibits a broad crescentic blade and a deeply split, double-tined rear spike used for piercing armor. The entire surface is decorated with engraved floral decoration. Origin: Northern India or Persia (modern Iran), late 17th – early 18th century. Such khadi tabars were weapons of both status and utility, appearing in royal armories and in depictions of elite cavalry. The forked spike symbolized both destructive power and divine duality - a concept rooted in Indo-Persian cosmology. Condition: Very good for age. Length 19 cm.
