Description

Extra rare 17th Century Carved Cabinet for relics from the castle in Dresden, Saxony, Germany. Richly carved, black wooden cabinet. Signed medallions with realistic images of the five rulers of Saxony are placed throughout the cabinet. Also on the cabinet in different places is the coat of arms of Saxony. The walls and doors of the reliquarium are richly inlaid with jasper stones (some replaced later). The inside is covered in red leather (late restoration). Massive, carved, spiral legs. Under each image of the ruler there is an inscription "Dux Sacsoniac", Above each medallion the name of the Ruler, HENRICUS, ALBERTVS, GEORGIVS.VI., AVGUSTUS, OH GEORGIVS. An extra rare relic of the rulers of Saxony in the 17th century, such items very rarely appear on the antique market.
