This rare 1744 edition of Captain Charles Johnson’s seminal work, Histoire des Pirates Anglois, was published in Trévoux by La Compagnie and represents one of the most influential historical accounts of the Golden Age of Piracy. The volume provides a detailed narrative of English mariners and outlaws from their establishment in the Bahamas to the mid-18th century, featuring the celebrated biographies of notable figures such as the female pirates Mary Read and Anne Bonny. Presented in a sophisticated half-leather binding, the book features tan pebbled leather over marbled paper-covered boards. The spine is further distinguished by a red leather title label with gilt-stamped inscriptions reading "CH. JOHNSON HISTOIRE DES PIRATES ANGLAIS". The title page prominently displays the date in Roman numerals as "M. DCC. XLIV" alongside traditional woodcut typographical ornaments.
