Description

An Ottoman Silver-Mounted Flintlock Pistol with Embroidered Holster, Circa 1800. This exceptional Ottoman flintlock pistol, dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, represents a masterful synthesis of Eastern craftsmanship and Western European stylistic influence, likely originating from a premier workshop in the Balkans or Turkey. The steel barrel, featuring a 16 mm caliber, is decorated with an engraved floral ornament and has an imitation of the master's signature in the style of Italian gunsmiths of the 17-18 centuries. and imitation of inspection marks. The flintlock mechanism is finely executed and signed with a cursive maker's mark, purposefully mimicking the prestigious French or English locks favored by Ottoman nobility. The dark wooden stock is lavishly decorated with intricate silver-wire inlay forming tight scrolling patterns, complemented by heavy silver furniture worked in high relief. The sideplate and bulbous pommel are particularly noteworthy, displaying chased motifs of trophies of arms and floral swags typical of the period's high-status weaponry. Accompanying the pistol is its original leather "kubur" or saddle holster, which remains richly embellished with silver bullion embroidery in a centralized medallion and scrolling vine borders, finished with decorative silk tassels. The total length of the firearm measures approximately 38 cm. The item is in good condition.
