Description

An English Transitional "Bar Hammer" Percussion Revolver, London, late 1840s. This rare English transitional percussion revolver, manufactured in London during the late 1840s, represents a critical evolutionary stage in firearms development, bridging the gap between the multi-barrel pepperbox and the modern single-barrel revolver. The weapon is chambered in 10.8mm caliber and features a substantial octagonal steel barrel and a large six-shot cylinder, both of which exhibit period proof markings. The steel frame is elegantly embellished with fine foliate scroll engraving, characteristic of high-quality mid-Victorian gunmaking, and utilizes a sophisticated double-action mechanism with a distinctive top-mounted bar hammer. The hilt is composed of a finely checkered walnut grip, expertly shaped for a balanced hold. Measuring approximately 32 cm in total length, this transitional piece is a significant artifact of British industrial-era craftsmanship and the advancement of personal defense weaponry. The item is in good condition.
