Description

An Blued and Gilt Folding Pocket Knife by Emil Olsson, Eskilstuna, Early 20th Century. This exquisite early 20th-century folding pocket knife is a fine example of the decorative steelwork produced by the celebrated Swedish cutler Emil Olsson in Eskilstuna. The handle scales are masterfully decorated with etching, over which an intricate floral motif of roses and scrolling foliage is rendered using traditional bluing and gilding techniques. The knife is equipped with two folding steel blades of varying lengths, designed for precision and daily utility. The ricasso of the primary blade is clearly stamped with the maker's mark "EMIL OLSSON" surrounding a central star, a signature hallmark of this renowned manufacturer, while the secondary blade features the numerical marking "15." Such pieces were highly regarded for their marriage of industrial precision and artistic ornament, representing the peak of Swedish cutlery exports during the period. The compact implement measures approximately 6 cm in length when closed and reaches a total extended length of 13 cm with both blades deployed. The item is in good condition.
