A very rare miniature model of a wheel-lock pistol (Puffer), Germany, 16th-19th centuries. This exquisite miniature model of a German wheel-lock pistol, commonly known as a "Puffer," represents a masterwork of micro-engineering and decorative art. The design closely mirrors the cavalry pistols prevalent in the late 16th century, distinguished by its iconic spheroidal pommel and complex ignition system. Constructed from a combination of polished steel and intricately engraved brass, the piece features a meticulously rendered wheel-lock mechanism with an external spring and a hammer artfully shaped with foliate motifs resembling a stylized leaf. The side plate is further embellished with fine linear etching depicting a pomegranate and scrolling floral vine work, a decorative program consistent with the high-level craftsmanship found in historical Nuremberg or Augsburg armories. The barrel has a caliber of 6 mm. Measuring approximately 12 cm in total length, this rare collectible serves as a refined homage to Renaissance technology and the tradition of miniature weaponry. A puffer is stored in a case made from an antique book. Similar items are held in the collections of the world's finest museums. The original ramrod has been lost and replaced by a modern reconstruction. The item is in excellent condition.
