Description

A Rare WWII Rare German Third Reich RLB Subordinate's Dagger, 1st Pattern (Model 1936) by WKC Solingen. This rare first-pattern Model 1936 subordinate's dagger was issued to the Reichsluftschutzbund (RLB), the German State Air Protection Service, and stands as a significant artifact of the organization's early history. The hilt is distinguished by its nickel-plated crossguard in the form of a stylized eagle with horizontally ribbed wings, centered by a circular medallion with a cutout swastika. The grip features a wooden core wrapped in fine-grain dark-blue (black) leather, inset with the elusive first-pattern RLB organizational insignia - a sunburst emblem featuring blue enameled "RLB" initials above a small swastika—and is topped by a stepped, oval pommel cap. The straight, double-edged steel blade is prominently acid-etched with the "knight's head" trademark and maker's mark of the prestigious firm Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Cie (WKC) of Solingen. The dagger is housed in its original steel scabbard, finished in high-gloss black enamel and fitted with a nickel-plated locket and chape secured by side screws. Included is the original black leather suspension hanger with a nickel-plated spring clip, which bears the "DRGM" patent mark on the reverse. Measuring approximately 37 cm in total length when sheathed, this piece exemplifies the high manufacturing standards and symbolic aesthetic of Solingen-produced edged weaponry from the mid-1930s. The item is in Excellent condition.
