This Model 1937 flyer's dagger, known as the Fliegerdolch, was issued to the Nationalsozialistisches Fliegerkorps (NSFK) and serves as a significant example of German aviation-related edged weaponry from the pre-war era. The hilt is characterized by its distinctive down-turned, multi-ribbed crossguard featuring a central square medallion with a black enameled swastika, paired with a circular disc-shaped pommel. The grip is composed of a wooden core meticulously wrapped in dark blue-black grain leather, a finish that is mirrored on the body of the matching steel-based scabbard. The straight, double-edged steel blade is prominently acid-etched with the "balloon man" trademark and maker's mark of Gebrüder Heller of Marienthal, Schweina, Thuringia. Notable organizational details include a stamped NSFK property mark on the scabbard throat. The dagger retains its original leather suspension hanger with a nickel-plated spring clip bearing the "DRGM" patent mark on the reverse.
