Description

A Rare WWII German Third Reich Model 1938 Railway Protection (Bahnschutz) Officer's Dagger by Eickhorn. This rare and elegantly designed Model 1938 officer's dagger was commissioned for members of the German Bahnschutz, or Railway Protection Service, a specialized organization responsible for the security of the national rail network. The hilt is defined by its nickel-plated crossguard, which features the organization’s distinctive insignia—a winged railway wheel positioned above a swastika. The grip is composed of a black, spiral-grooved celluloid handle, providing a striking visual counterpoint to the polished metal pommel that features a swastika on its upper surface. The double-edged steel blade is of exceptional quality, bearing the "Original Eickhorn Solingen" maker's mark alongside the firm's famous squirrel trademark, indicating manufacture by one of the most prestigious Solingen blade-smiths. The dagger is presented in its original nickel-plated scabbard, with two suspension rings and a decorative chape with a stylized floral design. This piece serves as a significant artifact of mid-20th-century German military and paramilitary regalia, measuring approximately 40 cm in total length when sheathed. The item is in good condition.
