Description

A Rare Tuareg Telek Dagger with Scouts de France Leather Belt, Early 20th Century. This traditional Tuareg telek, a distinctive arm dagger from North Africa, exemplifies the martial heritage of the Saharan nomads and was designed to be worn on the left forearm for rapid deployment. This specimen features the iconic cruciform hilt constructed from layered wood and leather, mounted to a robust, double-edged steel blade with a hand-forged tapering profile. The scabbard is expertly crafted from dyed leather and ornamented with panels of intricate reptile skin and geometric hand-tooling. Uniquely, this lot includes a coordinating leather belt fitted with a circular brass medallion for the "Scouts de France," bearing the motto "Toujours Prêt" (Always Ready) and a fouled anchor motif, suggesting a fascinating colonial-era association or commemorative use within French North Africa during the mid-20th century. The craftsmanship represents a blend of indigenous Saharan smithing and colonial military or youth organization influence. The dagger measures approximately 32 centimeters in length, while the associated leather belt reaches a total length of approximately 92 centimeters. The item is in good condition.
