Description
A Rare Napoleonic French Horse Artillery Officer's Sword, Model An XI, Circa 1810. This distinguished Model An XI saber represents a premier example of French military craftsmanship from the Napoleonic era, specifically commissioned for an officer of the Artillerie à Cheval. The weapon features a characteristic brass hilt with a three-bar guard, a tiered pommel cap, and a leather-covered grip secured by twisted brass wire. The curved steel blade is exquisitely decorated with traditional gold etching, showing a finely rendered array of military trophies including drums, standards, and a plumed helmet, complemented by an ornamental "K u S" inscription within a foliate banner at the ricasso, signature of the manufacturer Kirschbaum and Schimmelbusch, from Solingen, they worked for the French state from 1807 to 1813. A primary highlight of this lot is the brass scabbard, which is mounted with two suspension bands intricately cast in relief with crossed cannons and shells, signifying the artillery branch of the Grande Armee. Measuring approximately 100 cm in overall length. The item is in good condition, there is some minor damage, see photos.
