Description

A Rare Luristan Bronze Short Sword, Bronze Age, c. 1200–800 B.C.. This exceptional short sword is a hallmark of the sophisticated metallurgical traditions of Luristan, located in the Zagros Mountains of ancient Persia. Dating to the transition between the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age, the weapon features a long, slender, double-edged blade that tapers gracefully to a sharp point. The hilt is of the classic flanged variety, designed with deep recessed channels that would have originally held inlays of bone or wood, secured by the raised edges of the bronze casting. It terminates in a characteristic crescentic or "ear-shaped" pommel, providing both an ergonomic grip and a distinct aesthetic profile common to Near Eastern weaponry of the 1st millennium B.C. The entire artifact is covered in an authentic, variegated green and earthy brown patina, indicative of long-term natural oxidation. Measuring approximately 31 cm in total length, this sword represents a well-preserved example of the culture’s expertise in functional and decorative bronze craft. The item is in good condition.
