A Rare Italian Matchlock Arquebus, Late 16th Century. This exceptionally significant Italian arquebus dates to the final quarter of the 16th century, representing a classic example of infantry ordnance from the late Renaissance. The piece is characterized by its substantial steel barrel, tapers gracefully towards the muzzle, housing a smoothbore channel with a caliber of 19 mm. The barrel on the breech side has a complex decorative profile. The sighting system is remarkably well-preserved, featuring a traditional front sight paired with a distinctive tubular rear sight. The matchlock ignition mechanism is a hallmark of the period's, which is artistically finished in the customary form of a monster's head. Furthermore, the powder pan retains its original sliding cover. Constructed with an ergonomically carved wooden stock, the firearm reaches an imposing total length of 157 cm.
